Roaming the city

Today I did something for the first time: went outside and took a walk just by myself! And – being me – I did not settle for the large and open roads.

I also ventured on the so usual small alleys and roads that you see everywhere in Ha Noi.

And this is what I discovered behind the high rises! Ha Noi continues to amaze me with its contrasts. A fascinating blend of old and new that is a delight for the eye…

A bit of a tourism…

We read in a guide about a downed B52 from the war time, still in a lake in Ha Noi.

Man, what an adventure to find that lake! Back alleys, narrow streets, lovely houses… Driving past small tables where Vietnamese drink the usual green tea.

Curious looks on the people’s faces (two Westerners, on a bike, in a non-tourist hood that has probably never seen a white face…)

But we found it!

We drank a bottle of Pepsi-bottled water and a glass of Vietnamese green tea, made peace, and – like most Vietnamese today – we simply moved on…

Easter card “made in Ha Noi”

Walked in a store yesterday.

Looking around, some Easter cards attracted my attention. Something wasn’t quite right. And suddenly it hits me! One letter was not right, and the whole picture had become just too funny

Imagine a cute little bunny on an Easter card.

With the message: “I wish you a hoppy Easter”

I am in a modern high rise neighborhood. I am eating lunch at a mall called “American Tabernacle” or “American Nutrition”, depending on the translator. In front of a pizzeria. Listening to American pop music. Next to a Coke poster. And all I can think is “trojan virus”. Americans might have lost once. But they sure seem to be winning now.

Day 2 or three, not really sure….
